He confines his practice to pediatric orthopedic surgery and adult foot and ankle orthopedic surgery. Born in Brooklyn, NY, he graduated from Brooklyn Technical High School and from New York University College of Engineering with a Bachelor of Engineering degree. He earned his medical degree from New York University School of Medicine and served as a surgical intern/resident in the NYU- Bellevue general surgery program.

Dr. Simon received his orthopedic surgical training in the combined Harvard orthopedic surgical residency program. During that time he also did research at M.I.T.  in the application of engineering principles and practice to clinical Orthopedics. After a dual fellowship at Ranchos Los Amigos Hospital in Los Angeles and Shriners Hospital in San Francisco, he returned to Harvard, where he practiced pediatric orthopedic surgery and adult foot and ankle orthopedic surgery at Boston Children’s Hospital and at the Brigham and Women’s Hospital, respectively. He continued his research in human function and mobility as a member of the faculties of both Harvard Medical School and M.I.T. In 1986, he was appointed Chairman of Orthopedic Surgery at Ohio State University, Columbus, Ohio, where he remained as a clinician, researcher, and teacher for nearly 13 years.

In 1998, Dr. Simon returned to his native New York to join the orthopedic staff at the Beth Israel Medical Center.  Since then he has enjoyed an ever- expanding clinical practice in both pediatric Orthopedics and adult foot and ankle surgery at Beth Israel Medical Center and Long Island College Hospital. In both institutions, he serves as Division Chief of Pediatric Orthopedics and as Chairman of the Quality Assurance Committee. At Beth Israel he is also chairman of the Peri-operative Quality Assurance Committee.  He is a Clinical Professor of Orthopedic Surgery at Albert Einstein School of Medicine and an Adjunct Professor of Orthopedic Surgery at Downstate Medical Center.

Dr. Simon is certified by the American Board of Orthopedic Surgery and is a fellow of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons. He is a member of the Pediatric Orthopedic Society of North America and the American Orthopedic Foot and Ankle Society. He has published more than 100 peer-reviewed articles, has written chapters for major clinical textbooks, and edited the first textbook of basic orthopedic science for the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgery.

He is a reviewer for many journals including the Journal of Bone and Joint Surgery. He has served as a member of the NIH Orthopedic study section, as chairman of the Easter Seals Research Board, and as chairman of the AAOS Basic Science Committee.

Among the honors and awards he has received are the Isabelle and Leonard H. Goldenson Award for Research in Medicine and Technology Relating to Cerebral Palsy from the United Cerebral Palsy Research and Educational Foundation; Visiting Professor and Guest Speaker, European Symposium on Clinical Gait Analysis, Zurich, Switzerland;  membership in the honorary orthopedic society (AOA); honorary founding member of the American Institute for Medical and Biological Engineering and the Rehabilitation Engineering Society of North America (RESNA). He was listed in the 2004-2005 America’s Top Physicians by Consumer Research Council of America.  Since 2004 he has been recognized annually as one of the Top Doctors of NY Metro Area by Castle Connolly, Ltd and as one of the Best Doctors in America. Since 2006, he has annually been recognized as one of the Super Docs of New York published by the NY Times.   He was listed in the 2008-2009 Cambridge Who’s Who Registry of Executives, Professionals, and Entrepreneurs – Lifetime Member Award.
