Dr. Arsht is a board certified, fellowship trained orthopedic surgeon specializing in surgery of the knee and sports medicine. Dr. Arsht has developed a special interest in the treatment of disorders of the knee and shoulder, arthroscopic and minimally invasive knee surgery, arthritis surgery, and joint reconstruction.

Dr. Arsht takes a multidisciplinary approach to patient care and believes that non-operative treatment programs can often be very successful in managing traumatic and degenerative orthopaedic conditions. With this conservative approach, Dr. Arsht feels that many patients’ musculoskeletal ailments can improve or be healed without the need for surgery.

After graduating from The Tatnall Prep School in Greenville, Delaware, Dr. Arsht attended The George Washington University in Washington, D.C. where he was admitted to the University’s medical school after his sophomore year. He was elected to the Phi Beta Kappa honor society and went on to receive his Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology, graduating magna cum laude in 1991. After matriculating to the medical school program, he was elected to the prestigious Alpha Omega Alpha medical honor society and was the recipient of the Paul L. DeWitt Award for Surgical Excellence granted by the medical center’s department of surgery. Dr. Arsht earned his medical degree from The George Washington University School of Medicine and Health Sciences, graduating with distinction in 1995.

Dr. Arsht completed an internship in general surgery and residency in orthopedic surgery at The George Washington University Medical Center in 2001. He then traveled to New York to complete a fellowship program in adult reconstructive surgery at the world renowned Insall Scott Kelly Institute for Orthopedics and Sports Medicine, gaining additional expertise of the management of sports related injuries, knee reconstruction, and arthritis surgery. At the conclusion of his fellowship training, Dr. Arsht decided to remain in Manhattan and joined his mentors in practice at The Insall Scott Kelly Institute for Orthopedics and Sports Medicine. Dr. Arsht was instrumental in setting up the group’s Union Square office in 2002 and has been in practice at this location ever since as a full time faculty member of the Department of Orthopedic Surgery at Beth Israel Medical Center.

Since his arrival at the Medical Center in 2002, Dr. Arsht has worked closely with the Department of Emergency Medicine at the Beth Israel Medical Center and is frequently involved in administering care to patients in the hospital and in his office who have sustained traumatic injuries to the extremities, bones, and joints. From his work with the geriatric population, Dr. Arsht has developed an interest in hip fracture surgery and has been named the orthopedic director of the HIPSTAT program at Beth Israel Medical Center. The HIPSTAT program embodies a multidisciplinary approach in caring for patients who have sustained fractures of the hip and was previously the recipient of a $100,000 research grant from the Mary and David Hoar Fellowship Foundation managed by the New York Academy of Medicine.

Dr. Arsht is certified by the American Board of Orthopedic Surgery and is a fellow of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons. He is a member of the Eastern Orthopedic Association and the American College of Sports Medicine. Dr. Arsht has published several scientific articles and book chapters regarding knee reconstruction and sports specific injuries in basketball, baseball, soccer, and swimming athletes.
