Dr. Debra M. Parisi, MD
Hand & Microvascular Surgery
Dr. Parisi attended Duke University where she double-majored in Biomedical Engineering and Economics. She graduated in 1993 with a Bachelor of Science Degree. Before attending medical school, Dr. Parisi worked at IBM in their research division. The work she did there was granted a U.S. patent.
In 1994, Dr. Parisi matriculated at New York Medical College. As a second year student she won the Davis S. Gerbarg, MD award which was presented for academic achievement and the Johanna P. Hagedorn, PhD award presented to the second year student who demonstrated ability to express compassion. Upon graduating in 1998, Dr. Parisi won the Charlotte D. Yidell, MD Memorial award presented to the woman in the graduating class who demonstrated dedication to high standards of patient care and social awareness in the practice of medicine. She also was awarded the Cor Et Manus Award of Distinction for outstanding service to the community.
Dr. Parisi was accepted into the NYU-Hospital for Joint Diseases Orthopaedic Residency program after obtaining her doctorate in medicine (MD). At the end of her residency, Dr. Parisi won an award for excellence in Orthopaedic Research.
After completing her residency in 2003, Dr. Parisi opted to further her training. She traveled to Seattle, Washington to complete a Hand and Microvascular Fellowship under the tutelage of Dr. Thomas Trumble and Dr. Douglas Hanel. During her fellowship, Dr. Parisi did research on the use of nerve conduits.
After completing this fellowship in 2004, Dr. Parisi chose to return to New York. She joined the Orthopaedic Department at Beth Israel Medical Center. She currently holds the academic title of Assistant Clinical Attending at Albert Einstein College of Medicine.
Dr. Parisi is a reviewer for the American Journal of Orthopedics. She has authored several articles which have been published in peer-review journals and also co-authored a chapter on Wrist and Hand Reconstruction in Orthopaedic Knowledge Update 8, a review textbook published by the AAOS to educate Orthopaedic surgeons.
Dr. Parisi is certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery and is a candidate member of both the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons (AAOS) and the American Society for Surgery of the Hand (ASSH). Dr. Parisi limits her practice to the treatment of disorders of the upper extremity.
