After completing a surgical internship and second year residency in general surgery at St. Vincent’s Hospital, he joined the orthopaedic residency staff at Columbia Presbyterian Medical Center in 1982, graduating as chief resident in 1985. Following his residency, Dr. McCann completed the Shoulder and Elbow Fellowship at Columbia under the direction of his mentor, Charles S. Dr. McCann joined the attending staff in the Department of Orthopedic Surgery at Columbia Presbyterian Medical Center following his fellowship and was Chief of the Orthopaedic Service at Helen Hayes Hospital, a Columbia affiliate until 1991, at which time he became a founding member of The Insall Scott Kelly Institute for Orthopaedics and Sports Medicine at Beth Israel Medical Center. He is also a member of The American Orthopaedic Association, the oldest national orthopaedic association in the world, founded in 1887, whose mission is to identify, develop, engage, and recognize leadership to further the art and science of the practice of orthopaedic surgery.

Dr. McCann is a reviewer for the Journal of Shoulder and Elbow Surgery, and is Editor-in-Chief of The American Journal of Orthopedics, one of the most widely circulated professional journals in orthopedic surgery with a monthly circulation of 30,000.
